My first name is Eric.
My last name is Tjong Tjin Tai. Yes, this consists of three separate words, due to historical accidents in my family’s migration history. Hence I should not be referred to as ‘professor Tai’, as I sometimes regrettably see. The full last name actually consists of a Chinese family name and a Chinese name of one of my forefathers.
In Chinese the best representation of my last name would be
张 Zhāng (a common Chinese surname)
精 Jīng
泰 Tài
This seems to accord best from what I can gather from the origins of my last name.
